BLETCHLEY PARK : THE EARLY YEARS

 

This talk introduces five of the owners of two of the houses built on the site known as Bletchley Park. Dr Browne Willis the MP for Buckingham built a Queen Anne Palladian in 1710. Architect and developer Samuel Lipscomb Seckham built a country house in 1877. Merchant banker and Liberal MP for Buckingham [Sir] Herbert Samuel Leon turned the country house into a mansion in 1883. Property developer Hubert Faulkner purchased the mansion in 1937, and the following year Admiral Sir Hugh Sinclair, the head of the British Secret Intelligence Service saved it from demolition.

 

BLETCHLEY PARK : STATION X

 

This talk introduces lesser known facts about the work carried out at Bletchley Park as the dark clouds of war loomed over Europe. After Admiral Sir Hugh Sinclair had 'purchased' Bletchley Park's mansion and gardens in 1938 he sent members of the British Secret Intelligence Service under the guise of Captain Ridley's Shooting Party to work there. . Whilst some maintained secret radio contact with British spies in Europe, others carried out work of a more clandestine nature.

 

BLETCHLEY PARK : THE INTELLIGENCE FACTORY

 

This talk focuses on how Bletchley Park developed from a University Campus of elite academic code-breakers in 1938, into a building site and a 25 acres factory employing over 10,000 people processing intercepted enemy messages and other intelligence.
